Beach

In May, Belmar was voted the #1 beach in Monmouth County in the Top Ten Beaches Competition, and #5 in all of New Jersey. Though we only stretch across a mere 1.3 miles of New Jersey’s coastline, we have been working incredibly hard to make a big impression on both the visitors and residents of Belmar.
Belmar strives to offer the cleanest and healthiest beach environment for our residents and visitors. Our 7th Avenue Beach was ranked the highest in New Jersey in the “Testing the Waters” Report done by the Natural Resources Defense Council. Our beach staff cleans and grooms the beaches every morning, and we strictly enforce restrictions that prohibit smoking on the beaches and boardwalk, except in several small- designated smoking areas near the boardwalk.
Belmar prides itself on having clean, safe and fun beaches for families of all kinds. Our beaches are home to the most playgrounds in New Jersey. They were built with children’s fun and safety in mind, and are a great place for the whole family to enjoy. It is convenient for parents to take their children to the beach parks, as there is one located at about every 5 beaches.
In addition to this series of colorful and fun beach playgrounds every few blocks, several of our beaches are devoted to activities like boogie boarding, kayaking and surfing. We even offer a surf camp at 3rd Avenue Beach, where kids of all ages can take surfing lessons. For older beachgoers who prefer dry land activities, several of our beaches are equipped with poles for volleyball nets. And even if you don’t have your own equipment, it’s usually easy to join a game.

Our boardwalk has been completely revamped and replaced with Trex—a composite material made of wood and plastic fibers that eliminates the possibility of getting a splinter. It’s a wonderful place to walk, jog, people-watch or just relax and enjoy the Ocean views. In addition, well-maintained restrooms are located every few blocks and we are constantly making improvements to our facilities and beautifying our boardwalk and dunes.
Belmar is also one of the most accessible beaches in New Jersey. We were one of the first towns to install Mobi-Mats to many of our beaches. These hard surface ramps continue down midway through the beachfront and provide universal access for anyone with a wheelchair, walking aid, or baby stroller.
Belmar’s season beach badges are priced at $50—the cheapest among local shore communities—but only $15 for 62 and older individuals, and individuals with disabilities. Daily beach badges are $7 for individuals 16 years of age and older. We also partner with NJ Transit to create packages which make family beach visits more affordable for our customers; you can save up to $6.50 when you purchase your beach ticket in addition to a daily beach badge on the train. Active duty military members and their families are welcome to enjoy Belmar beach for free, and new this year, all Monmouth County Fire and First Aid Volunteers will be given free access to our beaches as well.
