With over 20 years of architectural experience at both home and abroad he wanted to re-establish the role of the Architect as the central figure in the process of building and in doing so reinvent the role of the Master Builder, creating healthier, sustainable, better and higher performing buildings in the 21 Century. He believes the Architect should be involved at every stage of the process. Designing to the Clients brief and executing the design to the Clients expectations. Without this level of involvement it would be an impossible challenge to create buildings which are sustainable, livable, economical and above all beautiful.
To understand where our approach comes from and why we operate differently from other architecture firms, you first need to understand the traditional method of building.
The Traditional Method of Building – A Broken Process
The Client traditionally hires an architect and all other consultants required to design their custom build home. The design is priced by a short list of builders and the lowest price wins. The winning builder then builds the Clients project. This process is traditionally known as Design – Bid – Build.
The process of Design – Bid – Build is adversarial in nature and creates a greater risk for conflict. The contractors objective when bidding for work is to submit the lowest price. During the build stage the contractor will potentially seek loss and expense claims due to discrepancies in the contract documents.
Poor communication and the numerous relationships the Client has with the design and contracting teams creates a complicated web.
